There are certain interiors brands for which we feel a strong affinity. But what is it that inspires this loyalty? Style and aesthetics play a huge role, of course, but, crucially, we need to feel drawn into a world in which we would like to live.

The look of a brand is always the first thing we notice, as it represents a particular vision. Neptune is one of these distinctive brands, deservedly popular for its pared-back elegance and supremely liveable designs. The ‘new English’ aesthetic at the heart of its ethos is sophisticated yet wonderfully accessible, and its stores are designed as ‘homes from home’, giving visitors a sense of how the furniture, colours and textiles would work in a real house. Neptune’s philosophy of ‘perfect imperfection’ sums up what we want in our interiors – every detail is considered, yet the overall atmosphere is comfortably informal. Furniture is well crafted and robust, and Neptune’s fabrics, while absolutely charming, are reassuringly hard-wearing. These pieces are made to last; timelessness is always a key consideration.

Like all the best companies, Neptune respects tradition but gives it its own stylish contemporary twist. Customers feel engaged and welcomed, and are encouraged to put their own stamp on the collection of versatile designs. The inviting stores set the tone, with their friendly, knowledgeable staff making it easy and pleasurable for clients to get involved in the process. Neptune’s Home and Kitchen Design Service offers in-depth consultations on starting a project from scratch, with bespoke options for furniture and furnishings allowing a level of tailoring to suit individual needs. Likewise, if your household project seems too daunting to undertake without professional guidance – and if hiring an interior designer feels like too much of a commitment – then Neptune offers a tailored design service that perfectly bridges this gap, offering help with any room in the house, including the kitchen, which often can be a challenge.

The process starts with an initial consultation, either in a Neptune store or via a video call, with one of its expert designers, providing the chance to discuss the project, decide on an overall aesthetic and explore the appealing Neptune collection. Next, your designer will visit you at home, bringing samples of textiles and paints, taking measurements and working out how they can help you make the most of your space (the initial consultation is free; an interior design fee will also be reimbursed when you spend an average of £7,000 per room on Neptune’s expertly crafted pieces). The designer will then devise schemes and present you with moodboards and drawings, refining any last details: Neptune deals with the coordination of deliveries and organises installation, leaving you free to enjoy the excitement of the process.

Should you decide to collaborate with Neptune, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to the design details and traditional elements incorporated into its collections, all of which are inspired or influenced by the natural world. This autumn, Neptune has worked closely with London-based pigment maker Lucy Mayes on a rich, inky shade of green that evokes the verdant English woodland. Taking inspiration from the colours found in the landscape paintings of the renowned British Romantic artist John Constable, Lucy returned to traditional pigment recipes and used natural materials to create this new pastoral green hue for Neptune – aptly named ‘Constable Green’.

‘To achieve the layered depth of colour, I experimented with pigments created from a copper fishing reel, flowers of the native weld plant, and seed pods from London plane trees,’ Lucy explains. The result is a high-quality paint that is both inspired by and imbued with nature. A versatile shade, ‘Constable Green’ works beautifully in any room.

And following the launch of Neptune’s exciting autumn collection in store and online at the beginning of September – including the evocative ‘Constable Green’ paint – you will find even more to inspire your next interior design project. Whether you are simply refreshing your decorating scheme or embarking on a major renovation, Neptune has everything you need.
